Thematic workshops on communication at TPM

Core communication skills, time & project management

In this workshop, we explore key concepts and tools for designing and delivering scientific presentations. We will learn to create and deliver oral presentations with attractive stories, considering both context and the audience. Note: This workshop can be expanded to include poster presentations.

Becoming a Scientific Writer – Putting Why before How

The goal of this workshop is to help publishing scientists develop a more impartial and analytical view of scientific writing, to better understand their readers as the focus for their scientific communication, and to make them more efficient writers and editors. We will cover different aspects: from a conceptual view of the entire writing process to common language problems, and everything in between.

The Road to Competitive Funding – Tools, Perspectives & Processes

The goal of this TPM workshop is to boost participants’ chances of obtaining competitive funding by providing training that is immediately applicable in their working environment. We focus on project management, communication, as well as the writing itself.

Thematic workshops on other topics with TPM

Introduction to Scientific Publishing & How to Read a Paper

This workshop is designed for junior researchers at MSc. or 1st-year PhD level. We will first provide a basic grounding for new researchers on how the scientific publishing system works (authorship, peer review, and impact metrics). We will then explore how to extract relevant information efficiently, not only to guide our work, but also when we have to peer-review other papers.

Beyond the Bench – Career development for scientists

The goal of this workshop is to give participants a competitive edge in the job market by developing the intellectual framework needed to make informed career choices. We explore the landscape of opportunities, both within and outside academia, and provide practical help for the application and selection process.

Empowering Women in Science A workshop for women and men

The goal of this workshop is for participants to gain greater self-belief in their own ability, and greater confidence in asserting and negotiating their position in their team and other professional circles. We will tackle unconscious biases and self-limiting beliefs.
